Is HTM a different document format?
No. HTM and HTML are extensions for the same markup format. This page changes the download filename extension and shares a canonical address with the HTML converter.
HTM is an alternative extension for HTML files. Use this page if an older publishing workflow requires .htm; use Markdown to HTML for the general workflow. The output is an HTML fragment, with no bundled stylesheet or asset package.

Choose HTM when an existing publishing system or filename convention specifically requires that extension. For a new workflow, the HTML converter is usually the clearer starting point. Changing the extension does not change the markup or add another document format.

Confirm that your destination needs .htm before choosing it. The export does not include a stylesheet, package images, or reconstruct a full web page. Test the file in the system that will use it, particularly if that system has older rules for filenames or supported HTML.
